Airports are boosting their digital prowess and adding website features, but JFK Airport has literally taken this to the next level. The airport set up a website specifically for Terminal 4 and it’s already won awards. The new website not only offers plenty of information for visitors, it is also a new option for JFK advertising.
Terminal 4’s website offers interactive experiences, where passengers can check out the terminal map and look at continuously updated wait times for both airport security and taxis. There’s also a FAQ that helps passengers on their way to Terminal 4 figure out what they should do. This is the first time a New York airport terminal has created its own brand, separate from the rest of the airport. The end result is a helpful page that eases stress for passengers, creates a more personal feel to the terminal, and provides real-time information in the click of a mouse button.
Thanks to the elegant design and well-thought-out plans on the site, Terminal 4’s website was awarded a Webby Award by Communications Arts Magazine. The website was even featured on the magazine’s website and print version in March. The outstanding design also received an award from The Moodie Davitt Report in the area of Best Airport Website. In addition to the actual site, JFK’s Terminal 4 also has social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
Advertising in JFK could now be more than just actual airport advertising. The website is the perfect venue for additional advertising and it remains to be seen if the airport will open up social media to sponsored posts. Stay tuned for more information on that front.
JFK International Airport is hoping to begin a huge renovation project in January, 2018. The renovation would open up new airport advertising opportunities and provide extra space for displays. The idea behind the changes is to make the airport more accessible for a wider range of travelers, meaning there would also be more eyes on any airport ads set up.
The JFK airport renovations would include improving access to the entire airport by revamping internal roads and adding AirTrain rails. The airport will also feature central parking lots for easier access to all terminals. At this moment, the terminals are all separate, but if the renovation goes ahead, they will be connected to make it simpler to get from one terminal to another. The extra wall space will make for more airport advertising space, as well.
Airport expansions, like the one that JFK is proposing, provide marketers with a wider range of options for airport advertising. For example, when additional passages and corridors are added to the airport, there will be expanded wall space. It’s also easier to target passengers heading to a specific terminal, since you know if they will be traveling domestically or internationally and can plan your ads accordingly.
The addition of new ad space could make JFK one of the hottest commodities on the airport marketing circuit. If you are planning to place ads for travelers, it’s worth keeping an eye on the development of this particular renovation.
