Delta and AeroMexico are working together to offer new nonstop flights from Detroit Metro Airport to Leon Airport in Mexico. The main motive behind the flights is GM. With both Detroit and the Leon area of Mexico hosting GM headquarters, it makes sense for the airlines to make this route a priority. However, it also increases the value of advertising in Detroit Metro Airport, with highly targeted ads.
While the new flights will be relatively small, using an Embraer 190 plane with just 99 seats, the flights are expected to be quite popular. The influx of travelers headed specifically to Mexico means there will be new opportunities for DTW advertising, especially with a focus on those involved in the auto industry.
Nonstop flights make it easier for commuters and until now, anyone heading to the GM headquarters in Mexico had to take more circuitous route. According to Wendy Sutton of the Wayne County Airport Authority, “the strong auto ties between Detroit and interior Mexico have made it a priority to find new ways to make the journey easier.”
The new nonstop flights will run once a day on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, leaving Mexico in the morning and leaving Detroit Metro airport in the afternoon. The influx of travelers will help increase economic growth in both areas.
